Design Process

Designs take time to develop and to grow. Every site is different, and I do not make ‘cookie cutter’ garden designs.

When we discuss the possibility of working together on your garden ideas, I’ll ask you about what you would like to see or what you’d like to change, any problems you may currently be having with your property, and what kind of time frame you’re looking at for making changes to your space. During this interview, on the phone, over email, or via video call, I’ll also ask about who will be using the space (family, guests, yourself; clients if you’re contacting me about a small business site). If we decide to work together on your project, I’ll come out to see the space. I’ll walk around your property to get an idea of how water, sun, wind, and other factors affect it. I’ll take pictures and measurements. I’ll think about ideas after my visit, we can discuss it a bit more if we have questions to ask each other, and then I start designing. The design process may take hours or it may take weeks, depending on the project scope.

After I present the design and we agree on it, the physical work can begin. Daisyenne Designs can install your new garden with trusted landscaper crews, horticulturalists, arborists, masons, and other artisans. If you want to install the design yourself or if you know the contractors you want to hire to do the heavy lifting, that’s ok too and we can go from there. I can visit the site during installation or I can be on site for the duration of the work in case there are any questions.

Some changes can be almost immediate with just a consult (on a scale of ‘what can I grow in this planter’ to ‘can you suggest a plant to replace this dead one’) while other changes can take place in stages over weeks, months or years. It depends on the site and on your needs. I look forward to working with you!
